Try Diving!

Take your first breath underwater...

  • So, you've thought about trying something new, perhaps you saw some diving footage on TV or YouTube...however it happened, you're here and reading this. You want to unlock your inner diver, harness the ability to breathe underwater and go to amazing places! But...

We understand if you have a little apprehension.

All divers have had their first underwater breath. Some started with a lot of nervousness and became immediately comfortable after the first inhale. Others take to it as though their true identity is a fish! Everyone is different, but rest assured, you are in a safe environment with competent, patient instructors who will move at your pace. Whether you want to sign up for the next class on the spot, or you decide it isn't your thing, we will support anyone's decision. You will find the diving community to be extremely friendly and we want everyone to be comfortable.

This course is the first dive of the first certification, PADI Open Water Diver. We will familiarize you with our gear, how it operates, and how to put it together yourself! Next, you will enter the water at the shallow end and put your gear on in-water.

After a quick review of our basic underwater hand signals, it is time to take that first underwater breath that you've come to take! You'll simply lean forward and come to the bottom, in a position such as push-ups, and just breathe. Uncomfortable? You can stand up as you please.

We will continue with how to clear a regulator of water, recover a regulator that is out of your mouth, teach you to easily clear water from your mask, and show you how to breathe from another diver's second regulator. After that, we will cruise around to the deep end! If at any time there is something you do not want to do, or are uncomfortable, please let us know! That's no problem!

$50 - This fee is all-inclusive of gear rental, pool entry, etc. You only need swimwear and a towel

Not for this dive. But, know that PADI does require that students show basic water skills for safety. This requires a 200m swim and a 10 minute survival float for certification as an Open Water Diver if you choose to continue.

We have the staff to offer this experience pretty much on demand on any Saturday. If we do not have any other concurrent classes, we do require a minimum of two people, so grab a friend! Our Try Diving students will work with their own, dedicated staff member!

This takes place at the Farmington Aquatic Center at 1151 Sullivan Ave in Farmington, NM. Our contract with the pool allows for us to be there from 8:30 am to 11:30 am on Saturdays only. It is closed to be the public during our time there. Students will need to enter at the back of the building (north side) to park and enter as the main doors on the south side will be closed and locked.

No, this first pool dive does not result in a certification of any sort, nor does it prepare you to be a diver. There are more skills to learn!

It doesn't really apply in diving. In fact, you have more freedom of movement underwater than you do on the surface. On the surface you can move in the x and y axis. Essentially, walking forward/backward and side to side. In the water you have full ability to move in the z axis: which is up and down. On the surface, using the z axis would be jumping up and down. So, you have more freedom of movement when diving!

Is anything? You could be hurt driving, cooking, even walking. If you aren't careful, you could crash your car, cut yourself slicing a vegetable, or trip on a curb. We teach you how to safely dive and we always make safety our top priority. If you pay attention to what you are doing and use the skills you are taught, you will be just fine! Just like learning to drive, cook, or walk..

Yes. 10 years old is the minimum age. There is no maximum.

Due to the pre-water briefing, gear set up, pool entry fees, and dedicated instructor, we do not offer refunds if you discontinue the experience part way through.
